statement of faith

We Believe:

  • We are saved through Jesus’ blood (Eph 1:7)

  • We are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ (Rom 5:1)

  • We believe that God created heaven and earth and all that is in the world (Gen 1:1 and John 1:3)

  • God Created Male and Female (Gen 1:27)

  • All that God created is Good (Gen 1:31)

  • Marriage is between one man and one woman (Gen 2:24)

  • Jesus Christ became Flesh (John 1:14)

  • We believe in Jesus Christ the only son of God  (Matt 3:17)

  • Jesus Christ was conceived by the holy spirit  (Matt 1:18)

  • Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary (Matt 1:18)

  • Suffered under Pontius Pilate was Crucified Died and Buried (Matt 1:18)

  • We believe Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead (Matt 28: 5-10)

  • Jesus Christ ascended into heaven (Luke 24:52)

  • Jesus is the Messiah the Lord (Luke 2:11)

  • We believe in the forgiveness of sins and the life everlasting (John 3:16)

  • Apart from God we are sinners and not righteous (Romans 3:10,23)

  • The bible is the inerrant word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Based on these scriptures we as a body of believers make the following Statement:

  • We believe the Bible is the only inspired, trustworthy and true, without error, Word of God.  (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

  • We believe in the Trinity, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, conceived of the Virgin Mary. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. There is one God, existing eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14, 15; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4; Romans 1:3, 4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14, 15; Titus 2:13)

  • We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His death that paid for our sin through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection , in His ascension/rising up to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory . ( John 1:1; Matthew 1:18, 25; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 9:15-22; 1 Corinthians 15: 1-8; Hebrews 9:27-28)

  • We believe God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female and that these two distinct, complementary sexes together reflect the image and nature of God (Gen. 1:26-27).

  • We believe that God created marriage to be exclusively the union of one man and one woman, and that intimate sexual activity is to occur exclusively within that union.

  • We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of First United Methodist Church Marlette as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to First United Methodist Church Marlette members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by First Untied Methodist Church Marlette in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage , Gender, and Sexuality (Matt 5:16; Phil 2:14-16; 1 Thess 5:22).

  • We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11).

  • We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31).  Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of the First United Methodist Church Marlette.

  • We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image.  Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death.  We are therefore called to defend, protect and value all human life. (Ps. 139.)

  • We believe that God created heaven and earth and all that is in the world. (Genesis 1:1 and John 1:3)

  • We believe that man is created in the image of God but separated from God by sin.  Without Jesus we cannot have a relationship with God. (Genesis 1:26; 1 Timothy 2:5)

  • We believe Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is an ordinance given to all believers by Jesus Christ to remember his sacrifice for us and to symbolize the new covenant.

The elements of bread and wine or juice are symbols of Christ’s broken body and shed blood. Communion is not a means of salvation. Rather, it is a testament of a believer’s faith in the atoning work of the cross. (Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; Luke 22:19,20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)

  • We believe Baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and is your public declaration that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Baptism does not save you but shows the world that you have already been saved.

And while baptism is not required for salvation, it is a biblical command and demonstrates your love and obedience to Christ. (Colossians 2:12; Acts 2:41; Ephesians 2: 8-9; Matthew 28:19-20)

And By This We State Our Faith
